Okay, I’m already known for biting off more than I can chew, then choking on the consequences. But still, I had to float this one past everyone.
What’s the interest in starting up our own online ‘zine? Basically, we could use a blog format, here at WordPress would be fine or in fact great as it’s so easy to use and FREE. We could each have a column on our own forte, we’d need a couple editors to kick BUTTs, and we could do reviews and interviews if anyone had time for stuff like that.
But it would discipline us to create a small piece each month, an edited piece we think fit for publication. And, since we wouldn’t be paid, that piece could also be published elsewhere, or edited and then published elsewhere. We could all chip in on each other’s pieces (they’d be short, so wouldn’t take that long to write).
Just give it a think. I’m thinking it has potential as far as forcing us to meet a monthly deadline on a piece that’s short, and there’s little pressure because everyone would be published. No one’s going to be rejected here. But choosing a niche for a column would be great, or including at least one work of poetry and a balance of genres from journalistic columns to essays, whatever.
What do you all think?
