This book isn’t specifically aimed at writers, but the advice is universal. Here’s a passage I particularly liked:
“Deep practice is not simply about struggling; it’s about seeking out a particular struggle, which involves a cycle of distinct actions:
1. Pick a target
2. Reach for it
3. Evaluate the gap between the target and the reach
4. Return to step one
In other words, just do it, step back and read it with fresh eyes (or, hand it off to other eyes – AAWG – for an unbiased opinion), think about how the criticisms apply and what you’re taking away and implementing and what you’re not, then go at it all over again.
Good advice for anyone, really.
Oh, and we have this book at the library … (shameless plug, but I am about 85 % librarian)
