What with the holidays rolling in and all, I thought it may be a nice thing for some – or all – of us to volunteer at a shelter (for homeless/mentally challenged) for a day or even just a few hours.
I found a place called Pioneer Center for Human Services in McHenry, and it seems they have a variety of ways to help out. They’re also connected to PADS, the homeless shelter in Woodstock – for McHenry County.
I understand reservations about safety, if anyone has any, but going together I wouldn’t even give it a second thought. Plus, I’m sure the environment is controlled and regulated. The website makes it look quite nice there. Though, sexist as it sounds, I wouldn’t mind having one of our male group members with us!
I know, sorry ladies, but…
There are other options, too. I just very much want to find some way to give that isn’t material, and I was thinking of doing something like this on my own. Then, lightbulb moment, I realized the group may have more willing volunteers, and more than one is always better, eh?
I’d be happy to set something up if you could just let me know. I’m thinking a weekend day, a morning or afternoon (or two shifts, depending on availability). Whatever works. If you’re interested just drop me a line, here or at my email: firstname.lastname@example.org
